Fed:First injured asylum seekers arrive in Darwin
Doctors say the injuries suffered by the first victims of the explosion on a boat carrying
suspected asylum seekers off Australia's north-west coast .. are similar to those suffered
by Bali bombing victims.
The first plane carrying some of the most seriously injured touched down in Darwin
shortly after midnight on Friday (AEST) .. with another two planes expected to follow
within a couple of hours.
LEN NOTARAS .. from the Royal Darwin Hospital .. says the injuries of the first two
patients .. men in their thirties .. are significant .. with one on life support.
More of the injured are being flown to Perth .. and some possibly to Broome.
Three people were killed and about 30 people were seriously injured when a boat carrying
47 suspected asylum seekers and two crew exploded in Australian waters about 6.30am (WST)
on Thursday .. a day after it was intercepted off Ashmore Reef.
