Fed: Tributes for Colston, but not in parliament
MAL COLSTON's death won't be marked in federal parliament, but former and current politicalfigures today paid tribute to his passing.
Senate Clerk HARRY EVANS says Dr COLSTON wrote to his office requesting the upper housenot allow a condolence motion after his death.
But Former Queensland National Party senator FLO BJELKE-PETERSEN today passed on herfamily's sympathy.
Independent Senator BRIAN HARRADINE's described Dr COLSTON as a thoughtful, well informedand considerate man.
Queensland Premier PETER BEATTIE says the community and the ALP should let bygonesby bygones as Dr COLSTON was one of a few senators to visit regional Queensland.
The 65-year-old died last weekend in Brisbane after a battle with cancer.
He was branded a rat by the ALP when he sat as an independent and voted for the part-saleof Telstra and the GST.
