QLD: Heat intensifies on Labor MP in net bet affair
The Labor MP at the centre of the Internet gaming scandal has just over a week to pull out
of a taxpayer-funded tour of the Carribean and resign as Deputy Speaker or face the prospect
of being sacked by his leader.
Premier PETER BEATTIE has re-issued the ultimatum to Woodridge MP BILL D'ARCY to resign his
parliamentary posts before the government's next caucus meeting on August 16 or face an
unprecedented motion in parliament to strip him of his positions.
The Premier's ultimatum comes as the Auditor-General and the Criminal Justice Commission
(CJC) are poised to begin their separate investigations into Mr D'ARCY'S involvement with the
company that won Queensland's first internet casino licence from the state government.
And Mr D'ARCY'S wife LOIS is also under investigation for listing the phone number of
Springwood High School in the Yellow Pages ad for her marriage celebrant business.
Departmental spokesman GEOFF LACEY says Mrs D'ARCY, a teacher/librarian at the school,
could be sacked for breaching the department's code of ethics.
Her husband was this week accused of using his electorate office as the principal place of
business for a family business.
